Drainage may be the most common, yet most forgotten landscaping feature. Drainage problems can ruin landscape plants, turn crawl spaces into moldy messes, and wreck paths and otherwise useful yard areas.
At Winglewich Landscape Contracting, we listen close, and work with you to develop stormwater solutions that last. One size does not fit all - That's why we put in the back end time, devising practical, fixes instead of trying to sell the most expensive thing right away.
Consider these popular ways of putting water in its place.
French Drains
French drains are great in lawns, gardens, fields, and gravel parking areas. Hidden and highly effective, these old-school solutions create a low spot for the water to find, and slowly capture soil water. Water tables drop, boggy areas firm up, foundations are relieved of hydrostatic pressure, thanks to this humble collection of washed rocks, fabric, & PVC pipes.
Dry Well
If you understand a leach field, you will easily understand the purpose of a dry well. They can also be pressed into service as settling basins for debris and toxins before water flows into a creek or a watershed. Dry wells can be as small as a trashcan, or as large as a building, depending on the application.
Channel Drains
Often installed in or along hardscaping , channel drains quickly evacuate surface water around paving or pools. Channel drains have a long reach, blend seamlessly into paved surfaces, and can be cleaned easily by even the most un-handy homeowner, making them a beloved solution for drainage on flatwork or paving projects.
Culverts & Ditches
We can reestablish and excavate ditches, bogs, and swales, as well as installing culverts. Corrugated culverts are the time tested standard - Caltrans still uses them, but we like double-walled polyethylene ones, since they never corrode and "bounce back" from accidental damage - saving your wallet and roadway. We think you'll appreciate the affordability and easy cleaning of this modern option.
Downspout Collection
Your home's foundation or siding is no place for water to hang out. Downspout collection takes hundreds of gallons worth of roof runoff far, far, away. In debris-heavy areas such as redwood forests, we usually install a catch basin to isolate debris before it clogs a pipe - saving you from an expensive surprise shortly after you write us the check.
Grading
Grading is often the answer to drainage problems, especially in less-developed, very large spaces.
Call us and we will bring in the not-so-heavy equipment to cut, fill, and slope your way to a properly drained area. Our mini-machines tend to leave slightly less suprises, like ground compaction or broken utilites. Others can always do it faster and cheaper. But can they do it gentler or safer?
